There are different paths to join FHC. The process for your chapter is determined by the type of home and the structure of the House Association:

OWNED HOMES - INCORPORATED HOUSE ASSOCIATIONS

When a local House Association owns a home, the process to join the FHC involves a vote of the House Association membership. This includes all initiated members in Good Standing of that particular chapter. The FHC staff works with the local House Association and chapter to educate members as well as to prepare for and execute this type of vote.

Note: Each process varies depending on governing documents and state laws.

LEASED HOMES - UNINCORPORATED HOUSE ASSOCIATIONS

When a chapter that leases a house, dorm, suite or lodge from a landlord or university, the process to join the FHC is decided by the chapter’s Executive Council officers and advisors. A vote of the House Association membership is NOT required.

Note: Each process varies depending on governing documents and state laws.

UNHOUSED CHAPTERS - UNINCORPORATED OR NO HOUSE ASSOCIATION

When a chapter's property is kept in storage and there is no chapter facility or meeting place, the process to join the FHC is decided by the chapter's Executive Council officers and advisors. A vote of the House Association membership is NOT required.
